Usability first, Web 2.0 second

Check out this quick article at BBC quoting Jakob Nielsen and warning us to not to let our rush to implement Web 2.0 tools trump basic usability needs.

Of course, this is why the hardworking elves employed by the Johnson County Library Web Works are grinding out hours and hours of card sorting, paper prototyping and (coming soon) usability studies as we chart our course to the new Web world.

As we said in the JoCoLibrary Web World plan, "Functionality first."

"Although we have many grand and enchanting plans for what the best public library Web site in the world looks and feels like, if the site isn’t clear, effective and functional in the basic services that patrons expect, we fail."

but its nice when we're on the same page as Web gurus like Dr. Nielsen.

See you all on the 24th!
