On the younger audience (birth to 5):
I think we should have an 0-5 section on our website in addition to JoCoFamily. I realize that this will make some (possibly a lot) of overlap, but I think we should pull liberally from JoCoFamily to help with feature articles on JocoPreschool (my vote for the 0-5 section).
I really like pulling out the kids and teens library sites and having their own look and feel.
I completely agree. Not only is it important for users to differentiate between where content is coming from, but giving people their own section of the Site may make them more empowered to use it and contribute.
First Hurdle: Who is the audience?
The parents should be the primary audience. Do kids under 5 use the computer by themselves? I say we make it look very kid friendly, put links to games and other kids activities on there, and have a nice, clean, white-space design. Bright colors, fluffy stuffed animals, etc.
Ideas for what the 0-5 sub-section should be called:
JocoBaby, JocoTiny, JocoPreschool (Gloria's idea, which I really like). Thesaurus.com has lots of suggestions, too.
What specific community information is really really hard to find/aggregate?
House repair info. I doubt we could call companies and ask general questions with any sort of reliable answer, but, could we subscribe to something like Angies List, and provide our patrons with information that way?
..the majority of the written, developed, photographed, recorded content..
I think that we could get so much more content if we made it so that photo releases or music releases weren't required. Can we make it an opt-out program instead? I know that's harsh on rights..

I can see tags for features, like blog post tags. And pictures too. It would be really cool if patrons could tag books, or edit/post their own reviews. Give patrons tag clouds, ooh boy.
But I'm thinking that we will fold the blogs we have into the site, and then figure it out from there.
I love it!
I agree with everything Scott Sime says.
Awesome. You're all witnesses.
The online answer file.
I like the idea of having some sort of wiki for this.
library lingo.
We could have little trillian-esque popups for lingo. I'm not sure how this would work, but if Trillian can do it..
does everyone want to learn AP style?
Could we have staff make content contributions to a holding queue, then have some sort of AP Moderator check them over and revise if necessary?
identifying who is talking/writing on the site.
Giving aliases (or real names) also adds to the 'community' aspect.

I keep coming back to JocoPreschool and haven't come up with anything better. It's the only catch-all term I can think of that implies ages 5 and under.
Maybe Erica could take some of her questions about this to a YS meeting?
