WIG survey, part 4: What pages can be axed?
Ok: blogger's back up...
Answers to: “Please select six Web pages on JoCoLibrary.org that can be deleted. Please include the page title, URL and any comments.”
Online Databases

Redundant. Same information as the Search & Research homepage, only formatted differently.
Money matters (Teens)http://www.jocolibrary.org/index.asp?DisplayPageID=380
KC Metro Buildings, History and Landmarks (Kids)
http://www.jocolibrary.org/index.asp?DisplayPageID=1106
This page is not only misnamed, it's wasted with only one link on it.
Books about Books (Readers’ Corner)
http://www.jocolibrary.org/index.asp?DisplayPageID=1262
Do patrons need to know about this? They will have to come to the library to use them since they are REF.
Tours of the Johnson County Library
http://www.jocolibrary.org/index.asp?DisplayPageID=148
The contact info on this page is outdated and non-specific (who will I speak with at that number?), and it seems like just plain duplication when most folks will just call the library directly to ask.
Suggested fiction and book discussions FAQ

This page should be nuked OR there should be direct links provided to the information!!!
Library Policies and Guidelines

In my mind, these should be prominently posted on the relevant subject pages, not hanging out in cyberspage all on their lonesome. For example: the Unattended Children policy would be better linked to from the Kids' page.
Other comments:
I want to kill about 9/10ths of the Search and Research page, which gets rid of a bunch and counts for all of my six
I can't think of any off the top of my head, and in the limited amount of searching I was able to do, I couldn't find anything that I would axe outright. Sorry this is not very helpful.
No specific URL, but kill the flyouts. If the links contained within them are the same as clicking on the root link, then just use the root link. Even for my First Person Shooter/Sniper Gaming Training mouse abilities, they can be cumbersome to navigate.
I'm not going to suggest that we give any pages the axe - web page hits should tell us what pages/sections aren't resonating with patrons. I will suggest that the kids' section should be separate from the general library page - sort of like what Cartoon Network does with the Adult Swim programs (it's a stretch, I know, but bear with me.) Kids want their own place, not a subsection of a website for grown-ups. The children's section should have an entirely different feel than all other pages. Call it JoCo Kids or something and make it into a combination of the library, history, health, whatever.
I can't offer many more, since I don't use the webpage much other than for patron training or requsting materials.
Every page with a different sidebar navigation device: every page should have the same navigation links to the left!!!!
Flyouts on the main screen. Surely there's a better way to do these fly-outs on the left of the main screen. It confuses novice users who aren't experienced with the website and may not have a steady mousing hand.
Most of the other pages either work reasonably well, or I don't use enough to know that they're bad.
